\n\u201cKambaba Jasper\u201d also known as Crocodile Jasper, Kambaba Stone and Green Stromatolite Jasper, is thought by many to be a very old kind of fossil Algae. Stromatolites are\/were microbial reefs created by cyanobacteria (also known as blue-green algae) and their fossils are the oldest traces of life on Earth. So, people think approximately 3 Billion years ago, oncolite stromatolites formed rock-like structures in shallow seas. Those deposits were then petrified (turned to rock) and we now find them in a small area in Madagascar called Kabamba (not a misspelling).
\nSome researchers disagree about the origin of this Jasper. From what I read \u201con the internet\u201d (https:\/\/www.fossilera.com\/pages\/is-kambaba-jasper-a-stromatolite), Kambaba Jasper is NOT a Stromatolite. They say Kambaba jasper is a unique, green rhyolitic (volcanic) stone with blackish, irregularly shaped orbs that cause it to closely resemble some types of stromatolite fossils. They site scientific studies they say prove it is a volcanic rock. To be honest I believe them, but I like the more romantic fossilized algae story, so I will leave both stories here for your knowledge and so you can decide what you want to believe.<\/p>\n
